Who We Are

Ngāi Tahu Property is a leading New Zealand property development and investment company owned by Te Waipounamu (South Island) iwi, Ngāi Tahu. We have assets valued at approximately $755 million. We are one of the investment pillars of Ngāi Tahu Holdings. Our mission is to create wealth for Ngāi Tahu Whānui (families).

Our Values

Personal integrity, respect and acknowledgment of the cultural heritage that comes from being part of the wider Ngāi Tahu group are an important foundation for the Ngāi Tahu Property team. We align with and commit to these shared values.

Our History

Ngāi Tahu Property was incorporated in 1994, but our journey began almost 150 years earlier when Ngāi Tahu chiefs petitioned the Government about the methods used in purchasing their lands following the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi.

Right Of First Refusal

Ngāi Tahu Property manages the tribe’s Right of First Refusal to purchase Crown property assets. The Right of First Refusal is an important feature of the Waitangi Tribunal settlement between the Crown and Ngāi Tahu.
