Matariki 2018

Loading...

During June and July 2018 we celebrated Matariki, the beginning of the Maori New Year. We created a series of Matariki videos, and ran a photography competition to see what Matariki means to you.

The winner of the Matariki Photo Competition was Gill Lowe, who submitted a photo showing her family appreciating being together and spending special whānau time at Waimairi Beach. Their prize included a memorable experience at Earth & Sky Stargazing, Lake Tekapo.

We asked friends of ours to share some of the many stories of Matariki. Check out the videos below.

The first in our Matariki Series was The Little Kiwis Matariki, read by James Daniels, Board Director of Ngāi Tahu Property and former radio broadcaster.

The second story was The Seven Kites of Matariki, read by Anton & Jess Matthews, from FUSH, The Landing, Wigram Skies.

The third story, The Stolen Stars of Matariki, was read by the talented Miriama Kamo who actually wrote the story as well!

A special finish to our Matariki Series was Tawhirimatea, A Song for Matariki (English and Te Reo), sung by former New Zealand Rugby International, Dallas Seymour.
