The Property Council New Zealand annual Property Industry Awards were held in Auckland on Friday 15 June and Ngāi Tahu Property are thrilled to have won two ‘Excellence’ awards for the Pita Te Hori Centre located in West End, Christchurch.

The awards were presented in the RCP Commercial Office and the Resene Green Building categories.  Some of the key evaluation criteria the judges had to consider included design, financial performance and innovation.

The Pita Te Hori Centre is a multi-stage, masterplanned commercial office and car park development in Christchurch city.  Stage One comprises two five-level office buildings, a six-level car park and a large landscaped garden called Ngā Māra a Te Wera, or The Gardens of Te Wera. The Gardens have been designed as a shared public space, perfect for informal gatherings.  The name commemorates Te Wera, a Ngāi Tahu warrior chief, while the plantings provide a softening of the built-form environment.

The development also uses an innovative District Energy Scheme with ground-source artesian heating and cooling. With the introduction of the District Energy Scheme and the photovoltaic solar panels on the office rooves, the development is one of New Zealand’s most sustainable office precincts.

The awards ceremony was attended by some 1600 patrons from all sectors of the property industry. This recognition serves to further enhance the Ngāi Tahu brand.

This is a reflection of the great work from the team and consultants on this project led by Gordon Craig, James Jackson and Chris Lowe.
