Embracing a new chapter in Te Pā Tāhuna

Kyle, a new resident at Te Pā Tāhuna

It’s no secret that the journey to homeownership can be a difficult one - especially in the post covid years. So when Kyle discovered an opportunity in Tāhuna Queenstown through the KiwiBuild programme he decided to make the move.

Ōtautahi Christchurch born and bred, Kyle started looking for a property in his hometown when the housing market was at its peak. He had placed offers on a few houses but kept missing out.

His journey took a positive turn when he discovered the KiwiBuild programme had an opportunity in Queenstown, and with a passion for outdoor activities like skiing, mountain biking and hiking this seemed like an answer to his housing search.

Kyle was fortunate enough to secure the last available apartment in Takiwai, the first apartment block within Te Pā Tāhuna, a premier development developed by Ngāi Tahu Property.

A home and community found

Now the proud owner of a brand-new apartment within Te Pā Tāhuna, Kyle says this exciting milestone has brought numerous benefits and joys into his life. Above all, having a place to call his own amidst the current accommodation uncertainties has brought a sense of stability and security.

The modern and well-designed apartment requires minimal maintenance, providing Kyle with more time to indulge in his outdoor pursuits, “there are so many things I love about my new home.”

"The apartment itself offers ample storage, and it is warm and dry. The maintenance required is minimal, allowing me to have more time for the things I enjoy like being outdoors."

In a place like Queenstown where outdoor pursuits often include a lot of equipment storage can be an issue. But as Kyle says, this is not a problem in Te Pā Tāhuna where each apartment comes with a dedicated locker for outdoor equipment—an invaluable feature. Ideally located just a few minutes' walk from central Queenstown, Te Pā Tāhuna provides easy access to the CBD through a safe cycleway and the main bus route to Frankton.

"I can easily commute on my e-bike or by bus. The bus stop is conveniently located right outside. I am very lucky that I have the flexibility to work from home and can enjoy a view of Coronet Peak from my balcony."

Home ownership a journey worth pursuing

Starting in a one-bedroom apartment didn’t put Kyle off. He sees this as a great first home where he can build upon his future. He also sees high-density living, such as the Te Pā Tāhuna development, contributes positively to the community, offering proximity to amenities and reducing reliance on personal vehicles.

Having experienced the challenges of the housing market first-hand, Kyle has some advice: “Plan ahead and get your KiwiBuild applications approved before properties become available. I would also recommend finding a lawyer or solicitor early on before you put an offer on a property. Seeking advice from experienced friends, family, or mortgage brokers is crucial in navigating the process successfully,” he adds.

Kyle's journey serves as an inspiration, showcasing how determination, preparation, and being open minded to the opportunities can transform the dream of homeownership into a fulfilling reality.
