Global dining arrives at Tower Junction

Last year’s redevelopment at Tower Junction has attracted new restaurants featuring cuisines from around the world.

In recent weeks Touch the Taste of India, Zambrero, Hao Eatery and Su Ra Sushi and Donburi have opened their doors in the western end of Tower Junction, joining Esquires Café, Anna’s Café and The Speight’s Ale House. The restaurants are open daily until late, offering a global variety of lunch and dinner options including takeaway.

Touch the Taste of India offers the choice of delicacies from across the sub-continent – with a focus on southern Indian specialities, manager Suman Burra says.

With tasty food and friendly service, the restaurant is becoming a popular lunch choice for people working near and visiting Tower Junction. Suman hopes more people will discover ‘Touch’ also as a great dinner destination.

“You can come for a delicious meal brought to your table and not worry about cleaning up afterwards.” 

Zambrero arrived in Tower Junction prior to Christmas offering modern, healthy, made-to-order Mexican burritos, tacos and nachos filled with slow-cooked beef, lamb, pork or chicken and fresh salsas.  They also have great vegan options.

Tower Junction franchise-owner Snehal Kakadia decided to bring Zambrero to Christchurch after working in his uncle’s restaurant in the North Island. Last year’s redevelopment and expansion of Tower Junction provided an ideal location.

As well as wanting to be part of a franchise which offers fresh food Snehal was also attracted to Zambrero’s ‘Plate 4 Plate’ scheme supporting international aid agency Rise Against Hunger. The Australian-based restaurant chain has donated more than 28 million nutritious hot meals for people in need in Africa, Asia and the Americas since 2005.

“Doctor Sam Price, the founder, is quite energetic and encourages franchisees to take up options to volunteer. I’m looking forward to participating in that.”

Hao Eatery opened at the start of 2019, bringing modern approaches to Chinese cuisine to Christchurch, restaurant manager Eugenia Zhang says.

The menu ranges from market staples such as steam-fried buns, crisp Asian salads and Hao’s special fried chicken, to modern versions of well-loved Chinese classics including hot pot, kongpao chicken and mapo tofu.

Eugenia says the food is all prepared from high-quality, additive-free ingredients.

“It’s very fresh and healthy, and we will keep innovating with the menu.”

Su Ra Sushi and Donburi also opened its latest restaurant in Tower Junction late last year. In addition to freshly-made sushi, it specialises in donburi – big Japanese bowls of rice topped with tasty flavoured vegetables, meat and sauces.
