Ngāi Tahu Property expertise celebrated at Property Institute awards

The broad industry expertise and commitment of Ngāi Tahu Property investment general manager Ian Dewar were recognised at last week’s Property Institute of New Zealand awards.

An independent judging panel named Dewar the New Zealand Commercial Property Manager of the Year at the Institute’s annual awards dinner at Te Papa Tongarewa on Thursday.

Dewar has extensive investment and management experience across a variety of sectors including office, industrial, retail and residential.

He has been with Ngāi Tahu Property since 1998 and has seen its portfolio grow to the value of more than $400 million across diverse properties throughout the Ngāi Tahu takiwā (tribal area).

Long-term investment properties include the award-winning Post Office Precinct in Tāhuna-Queenstown, the six Green Star-rated Te Hononga civic building owned in partnership with Christchurch City Council - and the five-Green Star-rated the flagship Pita Te Hori Centre commercial buildings in central Ōtautahi-Christchurch.

The awards, which acknowledge ‘The Best of the Best’, were part of the institute’s annual conference held in Wellington last week which attracted about 300 delegates and observers.

Rocky Roberts Scott McCulloch PINZ keynote speakers

Ngāi Tahu Holdings kaitunaki-projects advisor Rocky Roberts and Ngāi Tahu Property South Island general manager Scott McCulloch shared the Ngāi Tahu investment journey in a joint keynote speech to the Institute conference.

McCulloch gave an overview of Ngāi Tahu Property’s goals as an intergenerational investor which aims to deliver a commercial return, a cultural return and a community return.

Recent projects have included building high-density housing for the Tāmaki Makaurau-Auckland market, commercial developments in Wānaka and Lincoln and upcoming industrial developments.
