Remembering Tahu Pōtiki

Ngāi Tahu Property extends sympathy and aroha to the whānau of Ōtākou rakitira Tahu Pōtiki.

Tahu was a great friend and partner to Ngāi Tahu Property. Most recently he has shared and supported our plans to build new homes for the people of Tāhuna-Queenstown and our vision of increasing the visibility of the Kāi Tahu presence in the region by supporting a new civic and cultural ‘heart’ for the resort.

The Aukaha agency founded by Tahu will be an enduring legacy ensuring the continuation of this work in the southern regions of Aotearoa for future generations of Kāi Tahu.

The passing of Tahu is indeed the falling of a mighty tōtara. He was dedicated to Kāi Tahu and embodied all its values; whanaukataka - care for his family and iwi, manaakitaka – looking after people, tohukataka – expertise, kaitiakitaka – stewardship, tikaka – appropriate action and rakatirataka, leadership. All these qualities were shared with candour and humour.

We at Ngāi Tahu Property are thankful for having had the privilege of working alongside Tahu and benefiting from his passion and knowledge which was both deep and generously shared.
