There will be even more options for shoppers at Tower Junction with the opening of three new stores in the Ngāi Tahu Property-owned shopping centre between June and October this year.
Adairs opened its doors in June and will be joined in the coming months by New Zealand-owned retailers Petdirect and North Beach.
Adairs New Zealand Regional Manager, Christopher Smith says that the opening went “fantastically” well.
“The team worked hard, and we managed to get the store ready for opening in four days,” Christopher says.
“The Christchurch and South Island customers really showed their support for both Adairs and Mocka, with shoppers coming from all across the South Island to visit. One customer drove all the way from Invercargill just to shop with us in person!”
Described as “the ultimate homestyling destination”, the Tower Junction store is currently the only Adairs store in the South Island. The company also has stores in Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga and Wellington.
“We were always getting feedback from customers that they loved our Riccarton location but that they wanted more,” Christopher says.
“When we saw the opportunity to move to a larger site, where customers can drive right up to the door, we knew it would be a great opportunity,” he says.
“With Mocka supporting with their first ever dedicated retail space and with the company being founded in Christchurch, it gave us the opportunity to invest in a community we're proud to be a part of.”
Petdirect Head of Retail Aaron Waters started his own retail career in Tower Junction and says he is excited to be coming full circle with the opening of Petdirect’s first South Island store at the centre at the end of July.
“Tower Junction is a great central local shopping centre with lots of parking,” Aaron says.
“Our new store will have two dog washes and an excellent range of frozen food and other pet products,” he says.
Aaron says recruitment is already underway for 10 to 12 staff members for the new Petdirect store.
“We view our stores as education centres where pets are welcome and our trained staff are available to help pet parents be the best they can be,” he says.
Meanwhile, homegrown streetwear retailer North Beach is moving into the space previously occupied by Raeward Fresh. North Beach stocks one of New Zealand's largest ranges of street, skate and surf wear from huge international labels to locally grown brands.
North Beach’s Head of Retail Johnny Dee says that this will be the third North Beach store in the South Island.
“We chose Tower Junction as the site for our new store because of the quality of the development and associated tenants, the size of the space, and the geographical area which provides good coverage, complementing our existing Christchurch store,” Johnny says.
“The super large format of this new store will allow us to take things to the next level, giving us the opportunity to do justice to our categories by carrying a larger range of stock than we can in our smaller stores,” he says.
The new North Beach store is due to open at Tower Junction by the end of October.
Ngāi Tahu Property Asset Manager Mark Youthed says that it is exciting to see new retailers moving into Tower Junction.
“Having new stores increases the diversity of products and services available for shoppers and confirms the ongoing appeal of the centre for retailers,” Mark says.
Mark says there are a limited number of opportunities available for retailers looking to secure a tenancy in the Tower Junction shopping centre. For more information, visit Commercial Property For Lease, Christchurch | Tower Junction.
