Pākākano, the New Zealand headquarters for PGG Wrightson Seeds, is a high-quality commercial development in the budding agri-business hub adjacent to Lincoln University in Lincoln, Selwyn District.
PGG Wrightson Seeds is an established global brand which has taken on a long-term lease for the purpose-built facility which was officially opened in June 2019. Ngāi Tahu Property collaborated with the firm on the design to ensure the layout and integrated fit-out provides PGG Wrightson Seeds kaimahi (workforce) with operational synergies, while allowing for future expansion requirements.
Pākākano, which fittingly means ‘seedpod’, was gifted by Te Taumutu Rūnanga on behalf of the Ngāi Tahu sub-tribe Ngāi Te Ruahikihiki ki Taumutu. The rūnanga also gifted the name Puāwai, meaning ‘blossoms of the land’ for the three pou whenua at the building’s entrance.
The addition of the site to the portfolio also aligns with Ngāi Tahu Property’s intention to diversify its holdings throughout all regions of the Ngāi Tahu takiwā (region) and support the visibility of iwi names and culture throughout Te Waipounamu.
